He was born only a month ago at the Zoorasia Yokohamazoological gardens. And at every public appearance he isgreeted with squeals and coos.[Yuri Horiuchi, Zoo Patron]:"He was so cute. I cannot say anything more."Hundreds of visitors turn up for his two public appearances each week[Natsumi Yoshida, Zoo Patron]:"I am glad that I can take many photographs of the baby lionbefore he grows much, much bigger in just a short time."The tiny lion cub is one of a rare subspeciesof lions called the Asiatic lion. Only 350 individuals are known to survive inthe wild. The lastof the Asiatic lions live in the state of Gujarat in India.This new born pussy cat deserves the full star treatment as the first Asiatic lion born in Japan in six years and Japan's first ever male cub.[Shunichiro Tajima, Zoo Keeper]:"His mother is not only unaccustomed to raising a child but alsoa bit too old as a lion to raise a child. So after discussions, we decided toraise him by ourselves because it would enhance his survivalprobability."The cub will be called one of three Hindi names. Suraj, Dost, or Raja meaning Sun, Friend and King The Zoo has asked the public to chose one.
